A glycoprotein hormone secreted by the developing placenta shortly after the sperm enters the egg is called HCG. Scientists have found that,HCG can be detected in urine as early as 7 days after conception by using HCG test strips ,  doubling every 1.3 to 2 days. During the last missed period, urinary HCG levels were approximately 100miu per millilitre, with the highest levels at the end of the first trimester ranging from 100,000 to 200000mlu per millilitre. The appearance of HCG shortly after conception and the subsequent increase in concentration during early gestation growth make it an ideal marker for early gestation detection. The HCG Pregnancy Rapid Test (Urine/Blood) is a rapid qualitative one-step HCG test in urine. The test principle uses a unique combination of monoclonal dye conjugates and polyclonal solid-phase antibodies to selectively identify HCG in test samples with extremely high sensitivity. HCG levels as low as 25miu/ml can be detected in less than 5 minutes.

When the urine sample to be tested flows through the bottom absorber of the pregnancy strips, the labeled antibody-dye conjugate binds to HCG in the pregnancy tests to form an antibody-antigen complex. The complex binds to the anti-HCG antibody in the positive reaction zone (“T” zone), producing a pink-purple band when the HCG concentration is greater than 25miu/ml, while in the absence of HCG, the positive reaction zone has no line. Unbound conjugate binds to the reagent in the control area (area “C”), producing a pink-purple band, indicating that the reagent is functioning properly.

We assessed test accuracy by comparing commercially available HCG rapid test strip, and a total of 203 urine samples were tested, of which 118 samples showed no pregnancy and 85 samples showed pregnancy.
